Sojiji temple
Founded in 886 by fujiwara no yamakage, this temple is the 22nd of the thirty-three temples of the western provinces. the principal image of the temple, the thousand-armed kannon, has an unusual appearance as it rides on a turtle, and is popularly known as the "child-raising kannon" and the "kannon who wards off evil." in addition, when the principal image was being built, yamakage served the sculptor a different dish every day for 1,000 days, which is why the temple is revered by chefs as the "father of the art of the knife." the temple is also famous for the traditional "knife ceremony" held every year on april 18th.
