Honnoji temple
Founded by saint nichiryu during the muromachi period, this is the head temple of the hokke sect. it is known for the honnoji incident, in which oda nobunaga committed suicide after a surprise attack by akechi mitsuhide. after the honnoji incident, it was rebuilt in its current location by order of toyotomi hideyoshi. the daihinden treasure museum displays temple treasures that have been protected through the temple's seven reconstructions, after being burned down and relocated five times due to wars and other reasons. in 2022, the restoration of the legendary sword "yagen toushirou" is attracting attention.
