Hoju-in temple
Hoju-in temple originated in 825 when kobo daishi (kukai) built a hermitage on this site. the second head priest was a friend of sugawara no michizane. the third head priest received a divine message from michizane in a dream, and a tenjin shrine is enshrined on the temple grounds. there are several halls on the grounds, including the rare "oil-pouring daikokuten." please use the intercom to announce your presence before paying your respects.
