Kaminoshima yayoi site
The kaminoshima site is the oldest agricultural settlement in amagasaki, where people lived during the early yayoi period, approximately 2,300 years ago, and is a representative early yayoi period settlement site in the western part of the settsu region. the settlement was located on a slightly elevated area on the eastern bank of the mukogawa river estuary, near the coast at the time, and it is believed that rice was cultivated by tilling the surrounding low-lying wetlands. excavations at the site have yielded pottery fragments with rice husk impressions, as well as a large number of pottery and stone tools, wooden farming implements such as hoes, wooden objects such as bowls and ladles, wood thought to be building materials, and seeds of plants such as carbonized rice, grapes, cantaloupe, gourd, and water chestnut. the excavated pottery, stone tools, and other artifacts are stored at the amagasaki city museum of history.
