Mount machikane, located at the western edge of the senri hills, was a place frequently mentioned in medieval japanese poetry, due to the sound of "machikaneru" (meaning "to wait"). currently, it is home to the osaka university campus, and a crocodile fossil dating back approximately 400,000 years was unearthed from the grounds of the faculty of science, and it was named "machikane crocodile."
