Jingoji temple
This ancient shingon buddhist temple is nestled on the slopes of mount takao. it houses numerous buddhist statues, paintings, and calligraphic works from the heian and kamakura periods, including a national treasure statue of yakushi nyorai (medicine buddha). its temple bell (also a national treasure) is one of japan's three most famous bells. known as one of the best spots for viewing autumn foliage, visitors can enjoy a spectacular view after climbing the steep stone steps. the "kawarake-nage" (throwing earthenware discs) ritual, believed to ward off evil, is also popular.
