The main hall of this temple enshrines a standing statue of amida buddha from the kamakura period and a statue of master shandao (an important cultural property). shōrin-ji temple, which is associated with the minamoto clan, was built by minamoto no kensōzu (childhood name: bijōmaru), the son of minamoto no mitsunaka, to pray for the repose of the soul of kōjumaru, the son of mitsunaka's retainer. in front of the gate is the site of the pond where kōjumaru's head was washed, after he offered to take bijōmaru's place. this tragic story of bijōmaru and kōjumaru has been widely known since ancient times as the noh play "mitsunaka".
