Rokuharamitsuji temple
Rokuharamitsu-ji temple was founded in 963 by kūya shōnin, the second son of emperor daigo. kūya shōnin carried the principal image, the eleven-faced kannon bodhisattva, in a cart and traveled through the town, distributing medicinal tea containing kelp and plums to people suffering from epidemics. the temple houses famous buddhist statues and sculptures in the history of japanese sculpture, including a statue of kūya shōnin, a statue of taira no kiyomori, and a seated jizo bodhisattva statue by unkei.
