Seiryoji temple
This is the site of the former mountain villa of minamoto no tōru, a prince of emperor saga who is said to be the model for hikaru genji. known as saga shakadō, it houses a national treasure, a statue of shakyamuni buddha in the seiryōji style. on march 15th, the "omatsutai" fire festival, one of kyoto's three major fire festivals, takes place here, and in mid-april, the "saga dainembutsu kyōgen," one of kyoto's three major kyōgen performances alongside mibu kyōgen, is held, attracting tourists not only from the surrounding area but from all over japan.
